Martin Prinoth is a filmmaker, producer and cinematographer based in Hamburg, Germany. He was born in 1983 in the Rhaeto-Romanic-speaking Urtijëi, Italy. After his BA degree in communication sciences at the University in Salzburg, he studied Film at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. His debut film „The Fifth Point of the Compass“ premiered at DOK Leipzig and received several nominations and prizes including the VisioniDOC award for best Italian documentary debut.
As a founding member of the artist collective POOL by YOVO! YOVO!, who creates mixed-media installations for public and theatrical spaces, he took part in international art exhibitions in West Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco. Martin Prinoth is holder of the Gerd Ruge scholarship and part of the international film program EsoDoc 2020. In 2019 he received the Robert Bosch Foundation grant „Grenzgänger“. His love for performing arts led to collaborations with Nicolas Stemann, Rimini Protokoll, Paul G. Mpumelelo, Antú Romero Nunes, Regina Rossi, Rykena / Jüngst, Kornél Mundruczó and others. He lives and works in Hamburg and Bolzano.
